How to use a caulk gun
If you are reading I am sure you know what a caulking gun is. However, if you’re the house wife that is getting around to buying one for the complaining husband I will explain. I don’t want to sound too much like some Neanderthal or Cro Magnon male. So, it could very well be the male that sits behind a desk looking to purchase a great caulking gun for his wife or girlfriend and he does not know the difference between a good calking gun and the Desert Eagle released in 1990.
What is a caulking gun?
A caulking gun releases caulk that typically comes in a cylinder with a pointed tube on the end of it which the caulk travels through to be delivered to the desired location. One of the reasons you have to use a gun to apply it is because you typically have to continue to apply pressure at the bottom of the caulk which forces it out. When you need more caulk you decompress the trigger and apply to the desired location.
How do you load a caulking gun?
If the gun is brand new you can start from scratch. However, if the gun is used you should remove the old caulk by depressing the lock under the arm and taking pulling back the metal arm all the way back. You then must take the new caulk and cut the plastic tip off the caulk. You may also use scissors. However, the bigger the hole the more the caulk will rush out. This could cause a problem if you are only trying to do touch up caulking. One of the best ways to make a hole is to use a utility knife and cut off the end as if you were whittling a stick to use for roasting marshmallows.
If you are using the caulk gun to put glue on boards your hole should be fairly big. The size of a pencil should be sufficient. Yes, glue comes in cylinders like caulk and is typically used to put on floor joists prior to laying the floor boards to a room down. This is done to make a strong seam which helps prevent creaking and cracking when you walk on floors. The most popular uses of caulk is used in bathrooms to help seal around bathtubs and sinks.
