Remodeling-Purchasing the right Tub Surround

One quick way to improve the look of a bathroom is to replace the tub surround. If you are unfamiliar with this bathroom accessory it is because it is often forgotten and can really lighten up a bathroom and bring a dingy bathroom back to life. The reason behind this is because without a doubt no matter how much you clean you the surrounding will eventually get stained because of the environment will have some mold set in although it may not be outwardly obvious.

If you decide that you want to take on this remodeling project yourself you should research the different types of surrounds available. Although there are several types available at different prices there are specifics to consider other than priced when choosing the right material to replace your existing surround? The basics include ABS or PVC plastic panels that should be able to be replaced without too much of a headache. Some of the surrounds include formed fittings from which you can set your shampoo or bar of soap on. Surrounds with additional forms will be a little more expensive. In addition, to PVC you can also get them in fiberglass which is a little sturdier. If you are shopping for quality you can expect to pay more for thickness than for anything else.

What kind of surround kits is available?

If you have bathroom that was not a custom design you should be able to replace the tub surround with a three piece or five pieces unit since these seem to be the typical replacement. You may be able to interchange between the three and five piece but it really depends on the type of framing that was done with the previous install. Once you remove the old surround you get a better idea of what to use if the frame is not plumb.

Lastly, replacing a portion of your tub versus ripping out the whole tub can save you a lot of money and if you are selling your home the monetary return for a clean or new like bathroom can save you a lot of money.
